Stop and audit limited voter registration exercise – NDC to EC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wa Central constituency wants the ongoing limited voter registration exercise in the area to be aborted following the emerging reports of infraction in the process.

The NDC has accused the Electoral body of colluding with the NPP to register unqualified persons. The party alleges the two have created an undesignated registration centre at the NPP’s Zonal office at Nakore, a suburb of Wa to perpetrate this unlawful act.

At an emergency Press Conference held last night, the NDC demanded a complete audit of the process.

“At about 10 am, our men on the grounds monitoring the registration process reported about the creation of undesignated registration centre by the Electoral Commission at the New Patriotic Party’s zonal office at Nakore, a stone throw from the original gazetted and approved centre.

“Following on the reportage, the NDC constituency chairman in the company of his youth organizer and other executives got to the scene to ascertain the veracity of the report.

“Upon reaching there, Lo and behold, they spotted Hon KarimTopie- the Presiding Member of Wa Municipal Assembly, who undoubtedly is a card bearing member and a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party and two officials of the Electoral Commission with registration kits fully set and registering prospective candidates.”

Meanwhile, the Wa Central Constituency Chairman of the NDC Mohammed Sule told sister station, Starr 103.5 Fm that the Presiding Member of the Wa Municipal Assembly and Assembly member for the community Karim Topie led officials and the Municipal Director of the EC to undertake the limited registration exercise upon a directive from the Wa Municipal Chief Executive Issahaku Tahiru Moomen who was the 2016 parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Wa Central Constituency.

He alleged that the Wa Municipal Chief Executive was behind the criminal activities by the EC as he comes from the community which is dominated by the ruling NPP.

The Chairman has thus called for the immediate suspension of the Wa Municipal Director of the EC Justice Annor as Police starts with investigations.
