NADMO Directors threaten demo over unpaid salary arrears

NADMO Directors threaten demo over unpaid salary arrears

Acting Municipal and District Directors of the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) in the Eastern Region have issued an ultimatum to government to pay their 18 months outstanding arrears.

The aggrieved Directors say if they are not paid by July 5, 2019, they will picket at the National Headquarters of NADMO and subsequently embark on Nationwide demonstration and worst of all resign en bloc .

“We are looking forward that our 18 months arrears are paid and better conditions of Service given us. We are giving an ultimatum up to July 5, 2019 for the stakeholders involved to pay us, if they fail all the directors across the country will storm the National Headquarters, if they fail to pay us we will embark on demonstration in Accra and if they are still adamant to pay us we will all resign because after all we were surviving before we were appointed”.

Addressing the media in Koforidua, Mr. Appienti Emmanuel – Spokesperson for the aggrieved NADMO Directors – explained that since assuming office on January 16, 2018 after receiving their appointment letters on December 15, 2017 none of the Directors have been paid his/her salary and neither have they been provided with conditions of service
“We were given appointment letters to act as Municipal and District NADMO Directors. The letter was issued 15th December, 2017 which we resumed office 16th January, 2018 so when you calculate it means we have worked for the past 18 months.

“In fact we do know that if you are employed at least between 3 to 5 months you need to start receiving salary but that is not our situation. The sad aspect is that nobody is talking to us exactly when we will be paid, this is affecting us very well because most of us were already working, some were teachers, businesses men and women, but all these people resigned to take the NADMO position yet not paid for 18 months, how do you expect such person to survive and take care of his family”.

He said they are fed up with the countless promises from the Regional Directorate over payment of their 18 months accumulated salary arrears hence the decision to confront the matter head-on.

The Acting Directors, chiefly Constituency executives of the ruling New patriotic Party say the delay in the payment of their arrears is ruining their families and affecting their political fortune therefore appealing to President Akufo-Addo, the Interior Minister, Finance Minister and the Director General of NADMO to intervene.

“Now some of the directors are being ejected from their rooms, others being divorced because they are unable to fulfill their responsibilities. Most of us are constituency executives because of these most lost their positions because of this appointment. They think we have had our share of positions.”

The National Disaster Management Organisation is the government agency that is responsible for the management of disasters as well as other emergencies in Ghana. The board operates under the Ministry of Interior.
