The Eastern Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Mark Oliver Kevor, has resigned.
Mr. Kevor, a Lecturer and PhD Candidate has resigned to contest the Afram Plains South Constituency parliamentary primaries of the the Party.
This follows picking of parliamentary nomination forms by a group of party supporters and branch executives on his behalf on July 10, 2019 to reinforce their call on him to lead the party in the constituency to save it from irreparable disintegration having suffered unprecedented votes lost in 2016 due to disunity.
“Whilst a lot of people have thought of my resignation as the Chief Executive of the party in the Region to an MP as a demotion, I see it as a privileged call to serve my people-Just as Jesus Christ had to leave from the comforts of heaven for the sake of our salvation. I have consequently called my Regional Chairman, Jowark, to inform him of my decision to accept the nomination to contest as the Parliamentary Candidate for NDC in APS.”
Mr. Kevor added “as I prepare to handover to my deputy next week before filing my nomination forms, I leave the Regional Secretariat chest out and proud of my service to the party and to the people I have worked with”.
He is, however, confident that his resignation will not affect the fortunes and chances of the party ahead of the 2020 general election.
“I have raised an army of hardworking young men and women serving in various branch, Constituency and Regional positions who are up to the task of coordinating and mobilising for Victory 2020. As we work towards victory, our roles and functions may change along the way and we should be ready to accept those roles that would eventually produce the winning numbers”.
Convinced of winning the upcoming primaries, Mr Kevor is promising a clean campaign devoid of insults and insinuation to ensure the party is united to maximize its votes in the constituency to help secure the “ultimate victory for NDC”
“I am grateful to the founding fathers of the party in APS, those who struggled with my father, John Oliver Kevor, throughout the PNDC/NDC days to make Afram Plains the stronghold of the party. I am committed to a clean Campaign and have directed that all my associates in this endeavour measure their pronouncements even under extreme provocation.
The Afram Plains South constituency primaries of the NDC is anticipated to be keenly contested also by the Former MP, Joseph Appiah Boateng who is staging a comeback to slug it out with the incumbent MP, Eric Osei Owusu who will be seeking reelection for second term.
