‘Abducted’ chief rescued; police on manhunt for rival

Police in the Western Region have rescued the paramount chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, and four of his elders abducted, and a manhunt launched for the arrest of the abductors.

The rescued chief and his elders are currently receiving treatment at the Effia Nkwanta General Hospital.

Nana Kwesi Agyemang was captured from his palace by thugs loyal to the chief of Upper Dixcove, Obrempong Hema Dekyi, to an unknown location, sparking unrest within the paramountcy.

This, terrified residents said, led to indiscriminate detonation of dynamite causing damage to many properties in both Upper and Lower.

Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, who confirmed the incident to Wiston Amoah on 3FM Sunrise Monday morning said the police responded to a distress call of an alleged attacked on the Upper Dixcove chief palace.

On arrival at the scene, she said the police noticed that “the gate to the house [of Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX] had been broken, there was a mess in the house.

“Information had it that Nana Kwesi Agyemang and four of his elders had been kidnapped so quickly reinforcement was called, they went to the house of Nana Hema Dekyi, the paramount chief of Upper Dixcove”, she added.

DSP Olivia said the police met an empty palace on reaching Nana Hema Dekyi’s palace but upon a thorough search, “they found Nana Kwesi Agyemang together with his four elders in a room.

She said the room had been locked.

“So police rescued them. In fact,, they have been seriously assaulted so immediately they sent them to Effia Nkwanta General Hospital where they are being attended to”, she explained.

Asked of the next line of action, DSP Olivia said the police are on a manhunt for Nana Hema Dekyi.
