Some parents whose children have been affected by the computerised Placement system have berated the education minister for scoffing at the plight of people who converged at the Black Star square to have their issues addressed.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh noted in an interview that the collapses and fainting of some of the parents and students at the Black Star Square were choreographed.
“We opened the center at the independence square to address the needs of Ghanaians who want to go to school, but some evil people have decided to pay GHc 20 and GHc 50 to people to go there and stage fainting and collapse, yesterday some of the collapses were fake. I’m even wondering why they brought little kids to the centre,” he told Asempa FM.
Speaking to Starr News’ Daniel Nii Lartey at the Black Star square Wednesday, an angry parent said: “That a whole cabinet minister, Education Minister is saying this, it is very frivolous and trivial. It is very irresponsible of a minister to make a statement like that.
You can see what is happening here, nobody finds joy in being in this situation here.
The whole ministry has Education Minister in charge of tertiary education, we have Education Minister in charge of secondary education. Why should we still be encountering situations like these?
Another parent stressed: “I was here when i saw people fainting and collapsing. I saw them with my very own eyes. So for the minister to say that people were bribed to fake fainting, it’s a lie. The people are facing the situation and you’re(minister) seated somewhere saying it is never true. Yesterday when we got here, some people were fainting and others were crying”.
There was chaos at the Black Star Square in Accra Monday when scores of desperate parents and students besieged the Accra Solution Centre set up by the GES to handle concerns relating to the placement of prospective students in SHSs and TVIs”.
