KNUST SRC president ‘assaulted, nearly kidnapped’ – PRO

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has condemned the recent spate of assault on some student leaders and a near-kidnapping of the SRC President, Mr Charles Junior Adu-Baah.

A release issued by KNUST SRC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Richard Amoh, on Sunday, 29 September 2019 stated that: “The President of the KNUST Students’ Representative Council, Master Adu-Baah Charles Junior was harassed, assaulted and nearly kidnapped”.

The statement explained that the SRC President “was ambushed around the Animal Science Department, in what looked like a kidnap, into a taxi and driven to a popular food joint close to Rakho School, Kotei, where the harassment ensued”.

The PRO explained that the case has been reported to the KNUST Police and investigations have begun into the matter.

The student leadership also condemned various cases of assault and harassment meted out to other student leaders at various times on campus.

The SRC said some of the incidents were masterminded by “a gang of unlawful actors, who are alleged to be members and alumni of Unity Hall”.
