RE: UN sacked Professor Adei for objecting to LGBTQ – Foh-Amoaning

A former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, has said claims he was sacked from the United Nations (UN) because he was questioning activities of the intergovernmental organization that had to do with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ) rights, are untrue.

Lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning while making a submission on the controversial Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) mentioned that Prof. Adei, who once served as Head of the UN System in South Africa, UNDP Resident Representative in Namibia, Economist and Chief of the Directorate of Africa Bureau, UNDP, was sent packing because he was against LGBTQ rights.

“…The LGBT driven agenda goes through the United Nations, goes through all UN agencies now. Go and check the meaning of the word “diversity” in the United Nations now. Call Prof. Adei, former GIMPA boss. He was moved out because he was commenting on these matters. And the UN system now has diversity or LGBT motives throughout all their agencies. So if people say the UN brought CSE, Sorry! The UN system is already corrupt,” Mr. Foh-Amoaning was quoted to have said on Joy FM.

A day after the remarks, Prof. Adei has responded in his quest to set the records straight.

In a statement copied to Ghanaweb.com, Prof. Adei said he was never sacked. “…I was never dismissed or sacked from my United Nations (the United Nations Development Programme to be precise) position or employment,” he noted. “For the records, I resigned my position and employment at the United Nations at the end of 1999 to take up the GIMPA appointment as Director General from January 1, 2000.

“Anyone who doubts my claim of resignation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) could verify the truth at the Ghana Office of the UNDP here in Accra or could do that anywhere else of the person’s preference.”
