Kasoa COP killer: Application for psychiatric examination refused

The Kaneshie District Court has dismissed an oral application by Lawyer of Eric Kojo Duah, the prime accused person charged for the murder of two police officers at Kasoa for him to be mentally examined.

The court while dismissing the application said the accused person who has appeared before the court twice already has not demonstrated to be insane.

In court on Monday, October 28, lawyer of Eric Kojo Duah, Mr George Eshun prayed for the accused person to be referred for psychiatric examination.

According to counsel, it was very unusual for the accused person to be going around and shooting at people.

He told the court that he knew the accused person personally and his actions as per the prosecution mean he requires mental examination even though he was yet to have counsel with the accused person.

ASP Sylvester Asare for the prosection while opposing to the oral application for the first accused person to be mentally examined said they “were surprised by the application.”

Kojo and one Michael Osafo Ani have been charged with murder and abatement respectively.

Case adjourned to November 12, 2019.
