The economy is not struggling…the business models are changing.

It’s often heard in most West African economies that, “Economy is struggling”. Sit back & dispassionately think “is the economy really struggling or the business models and ways of doing business which is struggling?

Some thoughts to let you understand what really the problem is:

1) Car sales are going down… but Grab / Uber are rising.

2) Restaurants are going empty… but home delivery is rising

3) Physical tuition classes are not getting students or going down but online studying is rising

4) Traders are struggling but online market sites are breaking all records in sales.

5) Old commission-based businesses are sniveling… but online services, at low cost, are finding takers.

6) Cell phone bills have reduced while internet bundles are going high and penetration is increasing.

7) Stable (“Government Jobs”) are dwindling but “Startups” and digital businesses are expanding.

If truth be told, what we are experiencing is a transition phase and everyone must be smart to know this.

Think smart that and challenge yourself that will change your mindset of going to the university to pass with a high grade, graduate, and wait for government employment. If you were lazy before, this time, hard work. If we had no skills before, then seek to sharpen your skills now! You should not forget that every human being has 750 skills within him/ her which can be utilized. Now, if you were been spoonfed, get to understand that it is no more and such treaty doesn’t last – It is now the survival of the fittest.

Those who cannot survive in an extent will find themselves in crime and other offenses in expenses to survive which may go contrary to public policy. It’s challenging for those whose business models are based on ancient data. It’s a mystery for those who have never looked beyond traditional methods or have assiduously resisted change of any kind.

The economy is not struggling – the business models are changing.

We have to be optimistic. We should focus on solutions rather than problems. When we train our minds to think in this manner, we are able to take action instead of dwelling on our problems, which is a more constructive use of our time.

Dealing with failure. Failure is part of the learning process. Most of us can honestly say that we have learned more when our best laid plans didn’t happen like we’d anticipated. There is opportunity in failure.
