NPP man’s killer left gun

It is emerging that the assailant who killed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) treasurer for Takoradi Constituency in the Western Region left behind the weapon he used to perpetrate the heinous crime.

The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe, confirmed to journalists yesterday that preliminary investigations were showing that Mark Ofori’s killer actually left behind the pistol used.

He said as the killer tried to escape, he dropped the gun and a handbag just behind the wall at the crime scene which is a hilly area.

The police boss indicated that the weapon and the bag might have fallen from the murderer when he was scaling the wall of the house after the gruesome killing.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE on how the attacker entered the bedroom of the NPP constituency treasurer, DCOP Vincent Dedjoe said their checks were showing that the assailant pushed the sliding window and used a jack to raise the burglar proof to get access to the room.

“Mark actually struggled with him. When you enter the room you will see there was a struggle. We identified four places of bullet wounds on him. He shot Mark on the forehead, in the chest and on the two sides of his feet,” DCOP Dedjoe narrated.

Besides, he said that a brother of the deceased, who was in the house when the incident occurred, also struggled with the attacker for sometime but was injured in the course of the struggle, saying “the brother called for help but no one came and when he managed to get outside the house, the assailant ran away.”

The officer said the bag contained a shirt and other implements which the assailant might have used to open the sliding window to the bedroom of the deceased.

DCOP Dedjoe described the death of the NPP treasurer as ‘pathetic’ and mentioned that the police had placed a bounty on the assailant but declined to mention the amount.

However, the family of the deceased had also placed an amount of GH¢50,000 bounty on the murderer.

Sam Ellis, an elder brother of the deceased, told DAILY GUIDE that the family members were pleased with the pace of investigations by the police.

The Takoradi Constituency Vice Chairman of the NPP, Justice Acquah, believed the weapon and the items found would help the police to trace the perpetrator.

On Wednesday morning, the whole of Takoradi was thrown into a state of shock when Mr. Ofori was found shot dead at his residence at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The assailant reportedly went straight to the victim’s bedroom and shot him in the chest, killing him instantly. Preliminary checks showed that he did not take anything from the house.
