Be careful of “women you talk to” – Security analyst to MPs

A security analyst Mustapha Gbande has urged members of Parliament to be cautious of the “women they talk to” since they can be a source of security concern for them.

According to him, some women go into romantic relationship with MPs in order to spy on them.

His caution comes after another attempt was made on an MP in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The attack  has sent Members of Parliament into fright with most of them demanding police protection.

But speaking on Nkawkaw-based Agoo fm, Mr. Gbande said  Members of Parliament must be conscious of their own security first.

“The MPs themselves need to take their own personal security very seriously in terms of whom you take to even your private home. They need to be careful with the ladies they talk to, Some MPs are interested in women but that’s their personal life and all these attract danger to their lives”.

Background

MPs are this time demanding the immediate provision of police escort following the failed assassination attempt on Nhyiaeso MP, Kennedy Kankam.

The MP and his family were held hostage at gunpoint for more than 3 hours by unknown assailants with a message that they had been sent to kill him.

Narrating the story on the floor in a statement, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that sympathy for the MPs lactating wife caused the assailants to abort their mission.

He demanded immediate action in providing security for all MPs.

“Mr Speaker, this should bring us back to the prime concern that we have often expressed in this chamber about the security of Members of Parliament…I think going forward, the country should make a determined effort and we must be very decisive about this because we cannot continue to imperil the lives of members of parliament…I think the time has come for the state to make a decision,” Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said.\

Minority whip Muntaka Mubarak wondered why all government appointees are given police escort but same cannot be said of MPs. According to him, it is time MPs are protected by the state.

MP for Asutifi South Collins Dauda who has had his fair share of encounters with armed robbers demanded an end to the talk shop and the need for more action.
