Manchester United have been linked with Juventus and Red Bull Salzburg stars Mario Mandzukic and Erling Haaland today.
Manchester United transfer news is gathering momentum ahead of the January window – and fresh developments involving Mario Mandzukic and Erling Haaland have surfaced.
The Red Devils are interested in signing both players with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer determined for the club to have a better second half to the Premier League season.
Tuttosport say Mandzukic wants to move to Manchester United in December, while Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet claim that Solskjaer has personally put Haaland’s name on Ed Woodward’s table.
Express Sport now looks at how United could line up if they’re able to bring the two forwards to Old Trafford.
Mario Mandzukic
Mandzukic has spent the bulk of his career playing through the middle.
The Juventus star has flourished for the Old Lady, Bayern Munich and the Croatia national team by playing as an orthodox striker.
Massimiliano Allegri moved Mandzukic to the flanks before he left the club but, should United sign him, he’d likely play down the middle.
Solskjaer is thought to be a fan of his tenacity and his hold-up play.
And should Mandzukic play as a centre-forward that would allow him to distribute the ball to the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Erling Haaland
Haaland has spent most of the season playing down the middle as well, scoring a stunning 23 goals already this season.
And United would have no reason to move him given how devastating he’s been for Red Bull Salzburg this season.
The Red Devils may then tinker with their formation.
By switching to a 4-4-2, that would still allow Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to play on the wing.
Martial, however, may have something to say about that given how impressive he’s been leading the line this season.
Full United XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Williams, Pogba, McTominay, Rashford, Martial, Haaland, Mandzukic
Who else do United want to sign?
Given how big a club they are, United have been linked with many players ahead of the January window.
In defence, links to Kalidou Koulibaly are refusing to die down, while Valencia’s Jose Gaya has also been backed to move to Old Trafford.
Regarding the midfield, James Maddison and Declan Rice appear to be on their radar.
And as well as Mandzukic and Haaland, United are also understood to be interested in signing Borussia Dortmund hotshot Jadon Sancho.
