Major Oduro lied – Rawlings dismisses statement on Volta separatists

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has discredited statements made by Deputy Defense Minister Major Oduro on the secession campaign by the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF).

In a story originally published by mynewsgh.com, Major Oduro alleged that the former president was unhappy with the Volta separatist group following their stance.

According to the publication, Major Oduro revealed that Mr. Rawlings and former NDC National Chairman Obed Asamoah had expressed his contempt in a letter to the government.

“Former President Rawlings and Dr Obed Asamoah have written to the government they are not happy by group’s activities,” he averred on Kumasi-based Otec FM afternoon political talkshow monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

A statement released by the office of the former president and copied to www.ghanaweb.com, however, indicates that he has not made any public statement on the separatist declaration.

They noted that the report was false and should be disregarded, adding that Mr. Rawlings has the intention to issue a statement on the development in due course.
