Confide in me – Krowor MP urges free SHS beneficiaries

The member of Parliament for the Krowor Constituency, Mrs Elizabeth Quaye, has urged beneficiaries of the government’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy to confide in her.

According to her, if they are faced with challenges that they cannot inform their parents about, she is always available to listen to their plight.

“As a ‘Mother for All’, I am ready to hear your problems and that should you have any issues, you should not hesitate to call on me”.

“This free-SHS that you are benefiting from His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo is the proponent and the implementer of the Free SHS policy. The reason why your parents do not have to sell their property, they will not have to sell their jewellery so that they can take you to school is because of the intervention of His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. There have been times where people could not go through the Senior High School programme because they cannot afford it,” she explained.

Mrs Quaye made this call on the premises of her office at Nungua Boade on Boxing Day at an end-of-year party she threw for the Free-SHS beneficiaries in her constituency who also benefited from her annual ‘Pre-Free SHS Extra Classes’.

The Krowor MP, who doubles as the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, told the students that the NPP government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cares for them, hence the implementation of the Free SHS.

Four more years for Nana

She urged those who have attained the voting age of 18 years to turn up during the 2020 elections to vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that they continue to enjoy the policy. She said the President deserves another term saying “four more years for Nana.”

While urging that those who do not qualify not to attempt to vote, she called on them to instead appeal to their parents to vote for the NPP to retain power in 2020.

It was her case that their political opponents, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, have nothing good for the people of Ghana.

She said should they vote for the NDC, it would cancel the Free SHS policy, hence the need to vote massively for the NPP and not the NDC.

Background

In July this year, the third and 2019 edition of the extra-classes organised by the Krowor Member of Parliament (MP) as the annual pre-senior high school preparation attracted 1,160 participants, making it a total of 3,329 participants for the three years that it has been in existence.

The first and second editions attracted 865 and 1,304 participants respectively.

The free one-month classes are organised for junior high school finalists awaiting their admission to the SHS and they are taken through extensive classes on all four core subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies) as well as guidance and counselling to propel them for life at the SHS.
