NRSA to “ground” transport companies over reckless driving

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) says it will soon begin to ground transport companies whose drivers do not adhere to road regulations.

It comes after 34 Ghanaians perished in a road accident at Dompoase near Komenda in the Central region Tuesday.

Preliminary investigations have blamed the incident on overspeeding from the drivers.

Speaking to Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Wednesday, Kwame Koduah Atuahene, Head of Communication at the National Road Safety Authority will begin to implement the powers that they have now received.

“Unfortunately in the past, institutions treated our recommendations with contempt but now we have the power so we will deal with these matters. I can assure you that this accident would be investigated.

“We have the mandate to ground transport companies when the regulations are made. We can use the present law now,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, MTTD of the Police in a statement, called on friends and relations of those who travelled to Accra or was coming to Takoradi around that time of the accident and are yet to the hear from them to go to the Central Regional Hospital in Cape Coast to check on them.
