The regional Communication Officer for NDC W/North Region Sam Jerome has personally condemn the decision by the NPP hierarchy to charge new aspirants a whopping sum of Ghc52,000 as their total filing fees.
With elucidation, this includes a nomination form fee of Ghc2000, filing fee of Ghc20,000 and a tiger fee of Ghc30,000 as a developmental fee.
This is indeed undemocratic and unfair treatment meted out to prospective contenders who wishes to add to our democratic dispensation. If you decide to charge an incumbent MP a paltry Ghc22,000 whiles charging new entrants or aspirants that much, then you’re not being democratic and fair.
Charging such a giant amount has the tendency of discouraging people with fine brains to contribute to our democracy and development as a nation.
It again will breed corruption. If I pay such huge money aside from one’s campaign, then of course he or she will do whatever it takes to recoup the investment made. This may include dubious ways of earning money thereby breeding corruption.
More so, the state of moneyocracy will arise. This is the state where the rich rule. So a rich man with no brain to contribute to national development will be preferred over one with fine brains. This will indeed be tragic for the nation thereby causing a total stagnation in progress of the country.
Above all, this singular decision isn’t democratic. If one is given preferential treatment as against the other, then you’re not being fair and democratic. In democracy, there should be fair treatment. Though rules are often set to to exempt sections of people, reasons been given in this instance is untenable.
We are however, calling on all disappointed members of the NPP to remain calm and join the NDC to fight this unfair treatment meted out to them.
