Hearts supporters leader confirms Songne Yacouba interest

Hearts of Oak supporters leader Abass Sulley has confirmed on Sunyani-based Nimdi3 FM that Burkina Faso international striker Songne Yacouba would feature for the Phobians in the second round of the Ghana Premier League.

According to the supporter, who spoke to Richard Ntow Gyan on Nimdi3 FM’s Total Sports, the Phobians have advanced talks with the gangling striker and he will don the rainbow jersey soon.

Yacouba is into the last two months of his contract with Asante Kotoko and has insisted he will not sign a new deal until Kotoko meet his astronomical price of USD150,000.

“He is a very good striker and Kotoko obviously can’t handle such a player so we will show that we are ready for combat and come back strongly. Yacouba will play for Hearts of Oak in the second round,” he said.

“Remember in 2000 before we conquered African we stormed Kumasi and snatched Edmund Copson from the camp of Kotoko. History is just about to repeat itself,” he added.

Kotoko chief Dr Kwame Kyei is on record to have said his outfit will not break the bank to retain the striker.

Hearts of Oak, who are Kotoko’s avowed enemies are currently seeking a solution to their striking problems and have finally settled on the 28-year-old goal-poacher.

Kotoko have reportedly expressed interest in Hearts of Oak long-standing target Victorien Adebayor and have told Inter Allies they are willing to offer USD150,000 to bring the Nigerien to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The raid, according to sources, has triggered Hearts of Oak’s interest in securing Songne Yacouba.

The 1,75 m striker joined Kotoko from Malian side Stade de Malien in the winter of 2018 and has gone ahead to prove himself as a key player for the former African champions.

If the Bobo-Dioulasso-born striker finally signs for Hearts of Oak he will join Joseph Esso, Kofi Kordzi, Bernard Arthur and Daniel Barnie Afriyie as well as Abednego Tetteh who are all currently on the books of the Phobians.
