The speculators, rumours and tittle-tattle over who partners Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama will be over before the end of March, 2020.
The question of John Mahama’s running mate has been on the lips of many in recent times. While some suggested the candidate should have been announced long ago, others argue that the timing was right.
Former President John Mahama won his party’s Presidential primaries overwhelmingly last year to lead the party into yet another elections of 2020.
He contested against other strong party stalwarts but won decisively clearly indicating the support the grassroots had for him.
Some of those who contested in the primaries were: Prof. Joshua Alabi, Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah and Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin. The rest are Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Goosie Tanoh and Alhaji Nurudeen.
A source close to the office of the former President told sharpnewsgh.com “John Mahama is certain to announce his running mate next month for sure.”
Senior members of the party started lobbying for the position immediately after the primaries.
Though it’s the prerogative of the Standard-bearer to select a running mate, he is compelled by his party’s constitution to do so in consultation with the council of elders and national executives.
There has been speculation he is going to select any of these candidates to run with him; former Education Minister Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, former finance Minister Kwesi Botchway, former KMA Boss Samuel Sarpong, former Minister for Local Government Hon. Kwasi Oppong Fosu. The rest are former Chief Executive for GNPC Alex Mould, Party General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, former Deputy Ambassador to China Horace Ankrah, former Mayor of Accra Dr Alfred Okoe Vandeepujie among others.
The source declined to mention the choice of the leader’s running mate but was confident to reiterate that next month John Mahama will announce the name of who will partner him to face Akufo Addo and the NPP in 2020 Presidential Election.
Obviously the members of the party in particular and Ghanaians in general can’t wait for the former President and Presidential candidate of the NDC to unveil his running mate.
