Minister ‘screams’ over GH¢80 price per bottle of Shito for Ghanaians stranded in China

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, expressed outrage when her staff who were sent to the market to buy shito for Ghanaians stranded in China said a bottle of shito costs GH¢80.

The minister vented that she can’t buy that shito for GH¢80 and will go to the market herself to get cheaper options. Ideally, the largest bottle of shito sells for between 25 to 35 cedis.

This was disclosed by Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, in an interview on Okay FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com. He was speaking about efforts by government to get food aid to Ghanaians stranded in China’s Wuhan province following the outbreak of Coronavirus that has claimed hundreds of lives.

“Ayorkor (Foreign Affairs Minister) was angry that, when she sent people to buy the shito, they came back to say one bottle costs GH¢80, so she won’t buy that shito, but would personally go to market to buy some at a cheaper price; so we are thinking of them; day by day we are talking with them,” Mr. Agyemang Manu said.

Ghanaians stranded in China have mounted pressure on government to evacuate them to Ghana. The minority in parliament last week gave an ultimatum to government to urgently evacuate the stranded Ghanaians, especially students.
