Covid-19: Akufo-Addo and family have tested negative – Physician

President Akufo-Addo and his immediate family including the First lady have tested negative for coronavirus.

A test conducted on the first family after the President marked his birthday on Monday came out negative, his personal physician told the media at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in Ghana have now jumped to 195, the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu has announced.

According to him, 106 of the cases are from routine surveillance, adding that cases from those on mandatory quarantine remain 89.

According to the Health Minister, 38 people have recovered and discharged while another 49 are receiving treatment from home. Deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana still stands at five.




Globally over 860, 000 people have been infected with the deadly virus while over 42, 000 people have died with Italy recording the highest number of deaths.

Meanwhile, over 178, 000 have recovered globally from the disease. The USA has the highest number of infections with 188,592 cases followed by Italy 105,792 cases and Spain 95,923.

The pandemic has dramatically slowed down in Wuhan, China, where the disease started in December last year.




In Ghana, nine (9) new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Thursday from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research since the last update on 30th March 2020.

All nine (9) cases were reported from Accra, three (3) of them travelled to Ghana within the past 14 days from Germany, France and Hungary respectively but for six (6) of them there is no history of travel outside.

Meanwhile, the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) also reported on tests from 77 samples including samples from 41 asymptomatic contacts of a case from Tamale Teaching Hospital and all are NEGATIVE for COVID-19.

This brings up to a total of 161 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ghana, including five (5) deaths as of 31 st March 2020 at 15:00Hr.

Three (3) of the confirmed cases have fully recovered and reverted to negative status for COVID-19 after repeat test following recovery from symptoms.

As at 31st March 2020, additional thirty-one (31) confirmed cases have significantly improved with no symptoms and have been discharged from admission for home care pending repetition of laboratory tests.

This adds to the 18 that were earlier being managed from home and bring the number of cases on home care to forty-nine (49).
