The Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP) 2016 parliamentary candidate for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) constituency in the Central Region (CR), John Sterlin, has presented Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers and liquid soap to health centres and hospitals, police stations, prison services and all communities in the municipality.
Addressing media at Ahomkafie in Elmina prior to the distribution, John Sterlin said the donation was his quota in contributing to the fight against the pandemic.
According to him, the donation was necessary because not everyone in the municipality who could afford to buy a hand sanitizer or a veronica bucket “so this is my widow’s might to help my own…. the covid-19 is our main enemy as a country so we must all join hands to fight it.”
He then urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and also advised them to heed to the preventive measures announced by health practitioners.
At Ankaful Prisons
At the Ankaful Maximum Security prisons, 16 Veronica buckets, four boxes of hand sanitizer, 16 rubber bowls and gallons of liquid soap were presented to the officials.
The Central Regional commander of
prisons, Deputy Director Of Prisons (DDOP) Dominic Nicholas Arthur, who received the items for the four prison centres in the region thanked Mr Sterlin for the gesture, saying the donation was a timely one and called on groups, philanthropists and individuals to go to their aid with other essentials such as drugs and toiletries for the facility was in dire need of such items. He promised to make good use of the items to achieve its purpose.
Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital
At the Ankaful Psychiatric hospital, Mr Alex Ofosuhene, a senior nurse at the hospital who received the items on the facility’s behalf expressed his satisfaction and said they (management) had been buying those items with their monies “because we do not get donations from our donors anymore because of this pandemic so we’re very happy for this kind gesture, we are by this calling on all Ghanaians especially well-to-do residents of Elmina and Cape Coast to extend their hands to us and any health facility near them especially in this trying time because we are the first point of call so if we are not protected, how do we save others?.”
