U/WR: Nigerian runs away after testing positive for Covid-19

The Upper West Regional Police Command has commenced a vigorous search for a Forty-six-year-old Nigerian national who tested positive of the novel Coronavirus but has left his home where he was to self-isolate.

Upper West Regional Police Commander DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko in an interview with Starr News said the command has already dispatched police personnel to hunt for the Nigerian.

Simon Okafor Chukudi tested positive for coronavirus on Monday but has since disappeared from his residence at Wapaani, a suburb of the regional capital, Wa after health authorities informed him about his status.

But Regional Police Commander is hopeful that the Nigerian national will be found in the shortest possible time.

Meanwhile, Upper West Regional Director of Health Services Dr Osei Kufuor Afreh has indicated that the Nigerian is one of the region’s imported Covid-19 cases.

“Five out of the new cases were people who came from abroad, including one Nigerian and one person from the Western region”.

Dr Afreh noted that health professionals had initially planned to transport Chukudi to the regional isolation centre but have tried to no avail to get in touch with him.

He added that since Tuesday it has been difficult to reach him.

The Upper West Region has since recorded seven cases of the deadly virus with many resident’s outraged with the recent cases of six.
