Keta: NDC demands accounts of GH¢166k for COVID-19 fight

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Keta Constituency of the Volta region is challenging the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Godwin Yao Effah Edudzi to make public how he disbursed the GH¢166, 280.62 meant for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The NDC party said it was shocked to have learnt that the administrator of the common fund Mrs Irene Naa Torshie Lartey in a letter dated April 9, 2020, released GH¢166,280.62 towards the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic but the people of the municipality have not benefited from any of such gesture from the assembly or the rapid response team (RRT).
The party in a release by Mr Albert Sosu Atsu, the Constituency Communication Officer lamented the ill-equipped nature of their health facilities in the area adding that those facilities are not ready to contain the spread of the virus and dared the MCE to account for how the fund was disbursed.

The statement noted with dismay how the Medical Superintendent at the Ketu Municipal Hospital, Dr Ekuban had to struggle to write letters to various organisation, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to come to our aid before the unexpected happens.

“It said though the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, Mr Richard Quarshigah and the parliamentary candidate Kwame Dzidzorli Glakpe, have donated assorted PPE’s, hand sanitizers, veronica buckets and soaps worth over GH¢5,000.00 to health facilities in the municipalities it was not enough for the whole municipality,” the statement stated.

Recently former President John Dramani Mahama had also donated PPE’s and other assorted items to the municipal hospital in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

The NDC are therefore challenging the MCE and the Emergency Response Team and the municipal assembly to make public, how they are fighting the pandemic and how they intend using the money.

“We are calling for full accountability and investigation into the usage of the fund because this is not a normal time the country is in serious crisis” the release stated.
