Zoomlion disinfects 103 schools in Central region

Sanitation giants, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd has begun disinfection of second cycle schools in the Central region.

The exercise at the end will see 103 secondary and technical schools being disinfected.
The exercise covers the disinfection of dormitories, classrooms, bungalows among other facilities of the various second cycle institutions.

The exercise, according to authorities is meant to get rid of all tendencies that could give birth to the coronavirus spread in such schools while again making the campuses ready for teaching and learning to begin.

The director of corporate affairs of Zoomlion Ghana Limited Madam Sophia Lissah stated that her outfit has secured the best of chemicals for the exercise and that the students will indeed benefit a lot from the disinfection exercise when they resume from the break.

She indicated that the disinfection will go a long way in providing a conducive environment to support academic life.

Aside from curtailing the potential spread of the coronavirus on the campuses, the disinfection is also aimed at dealing with the aged long challenge of bedbugs, insects, rodents and reptile invasions of some of the secondary schools in the region.

Schools in the central region over the years have been hard hit by rodents, insects, reptiles and bedbug invasions which ended up distorting academic life in some of the secondary schools.

Schools like Adisadel College, Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School, Mfantsipim School among others have been grappling with the effects of bedbugs over the years with other schools suffering other attacks.

Some schools which were seeing more students falling sick had to break academic work in order to deal with the bedbugs especially as students could simply not concentrate on their academic work.

Speaking to the media after the first phase of the exercise which saw twelve schools including Wesley Girls, St. Augustines College, Mfantsipim School, Holy Child School, Adisadel College, the Central regional director of education, Madam Matilda Owusu Agyemang lauded Zoomlion for the exercise.

She explained that the disinfection will not only help in curbing a potential spread of COVID-19 on the campuses but will ultimately make the campuses safe to support academic work.

She added that the exercise which is also benefitting the teaching and non-teaching staff as bungalows were also disinfected will go a long way in ensuring that the region has the healthy staff to support administrative and academic work when school resumes.

She urged the heads of the schools to build on the work started by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in making sure that the campuses are always safe to support academic work.

She, however, appealed to Zoomlion Ghana Limited to continue supporting the Ghana Education Service in keeping the campuses safe for the students through periodic disinfection as such initiatives will help in rooting out the bedbug, rodents and reptile menace on the various second cycle institutions.

Madam Owusu Sarpong also called on corporate Ghana to support such initiatives aimed at keeping the compounds healthy to support academic work as government alone can’t do it all.
