The National Communication Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi has defended his decision to draw similarities between the choking to death of a black man in the United States and the EC’s unshaken resolve to put together a new voters register.
Twitter users descended on Sammy Gyamfi after he posted a picture which they deem ‘irrational and insensitive’ and a show of ‘foolishness’.
Taking cues from the infamous and shameful photo of George Floyd’s murder in which a police officer’s knee was resting on Floyd’s neck, Sammy Gyamfi shared an artwork which depicts President Akufo-Addo and EC chairperson Jean Mensa choking a Ghanaian voter with the new voters’ register.
Interestingly, although Sammy was taken to the cleaners on Twitter, he chose Facebook to defend his actions.
He clarified that his actions were not intended to make fun of the death of George Floyd and the subsequent protests but was aimed at exposing how “ the Jean Mensah-led EC is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register. The potential victims of this grave injustice, are screaming for breath”.
“Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd, and the evil attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register”
