The Ashanti regional director of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mr Justice Anokye has said, preparations are far ahead with resources for this years parliamentary and the presidential general elections.
The chairperson of the Ghana’s electoral body, Mrs Jane Mensah on several platforms has insisted to compile a new voter’s register despite numerous attempts by opposer’s to resist the registration exercise in the country.
It could be recalled that the Inter-party resistance against new voters register on February, 2020, wearing a red t-shirts, head and hand bands, with placards with various inscriptions demonstrated to relay their displeasure about the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register ahead of December 2020 general elections.
Mr Justice Anokye told Nana Akwasi Sarpong Kumankuma on Time FM Morning show on Tuesday, that, Covid-19 preventive measures will be put in place at all registration vantage centres to protect registers, who are mandated to wear nose masks to the registration centres.
Emphasising on legible applicants of the exercise “Ghanaian citizen of 18 years and above and of sound mind are expected to register where they reside when the exercise begins; with either a Ghanaian passport or Ghana card as proof of identification or have two guarantors so they can register” he stated.
Mr Justice Anokye maintained that, the new voters registration exercise is to ensure clean and accurate register aimed at conducting free and fair elections to avoid political misunderstanding after the general voting exercise.
In his conclusion, he urged all Ghanaian applicants to remain unturned of good trust as the commission continue to ensure a transparent elections.
