We’ve André Ayew, we don’t need rotation – Oloboi Commodore replies Kwesi Appiah

General Manager of Great Olympics Oloboi Commodore has dismissed Kwesi Appiah’s assertion that the Black Stars captain’s armband should be rotated among the players to avoid confusion that normally erupts in camp.

Since football in Ghana was grounded to a halt due to the coronavirus crisis, there have series of revelations and explanation over what really transpired regarding the Black Stars captaincy row during the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations final loss against neighbours Ivory Coast.

According to former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah, the captaincy tiff can be resolved if there is a rotation of the armband among players in every game just as Brazil did at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

But the former Al Khartoum Watani gaffer’s proposal has been swiftly shot down by Great Olympics chief, Oloboi Commodore.

The experienced football administrator believes the Black Stars already have a great leader in Andre Ayew, arguing that he is the perfect player to lead the team.

“I disagree with Kwesi Appiah to say that our Black Stars captaincy should be rotated,” Commodore stated on Wontumi Radio.

“Let’s take Portugal as example, will they allow someone to captain the team ahead of [Cristiano] Ronaldo? If Brazil are doing that then it’s a bad practice and we should not emulate that.”

“André is a cup winning captain, he has won a trophy for the country and that alone gives him the mark but as for the national team let’s see whether he could be a good captain too.”

Appiah was at the helm of affairs during the recent captaincy row between Asamoah Gyan and Andre Dede Ayew prior to the 2019 AFCON which saw Gyan retiring from the national team after being stripped off the captaincy.
