Gov’t absorbs full examination fee for WASSCE candidates

President Akufo-Addo has said government will absorb the examination fee for students sitting for the 2020 West Africa Senior School Certification Examination (WASSCE).

“For the first time in our nation’s history, Government will absorb the WASSCE examination fees of the 313,837 SHS 3 students who will sit for the exam. GH¢75.4 million will be spent on this. These SHS 3 students, also referred to by some as the ‘Akufo-Addo graduates’, are the first group of beneficiaries of Government’s Free Senior High School policy to sit the WASSCE exams,” the President said in a Sunday night address on the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The President has also assured that his government will protect the over 800, 000 final year Senior High School students who return to school on Monday, June 22, 2020.



He added that adequate PPE, hand sanitizer and Thermometer guns will be distributed to all schools to protect teachers and students.

“My government is determined to protect the lives of the over 800 who will be returning to school tomorrow, I will be the last person to put their lives in danger.”

The President, however, added that students and teachers must continue to observe social distancing, hand washing and observe all the health protocols.

He added that there will be no visitors, social gathering and classes will not be more than 25 students.

Ghana’s death toll from COVID-19 on Saturday hit 85, according to the latest figures from the Ghana Health Service.

Meanwhile, over 5,000 people have recovered taking the total recoveries to 10,074. However, the country’s case count is now 14,007.
