Nana Addo insensitive over 15% transport fare hikes – Minority

The minority in parliament has accused the Nana Addo administration of insensitivity over the 15% hike in transport fares.

Transport unions have since the beginning of the week increased fares citing rising fuel prices and the directive to reduce passenger numbers as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Leadership of GPRTU has described the percentage as inadequate making a case for 50% rather.

Speaking to Starr News, minority spokesperson on roads and transport Governs Kwame Agbodza said government must solely be blamed for the hardship the increment is visiting on Ghanaians.

According to the Adaklu MP the over 600 million cedis approved by parliament for disbursement to businesses such as transport owners is being shared among NPP executives and members.

“You cannot blame the commercial drivers, fuel prices have gone up on the account of government’s deliberate decision to increase taxes, prices of spare parts have gone up and continue to go up, we expected government to actually use part of the interventions we made in this house, the IMF 1billion dollars, the 10 billion from the bank of Ghana to cushion commercial drivers as well.

“But what I have noticed, the NPP is sharing forms to party members and distributing about 2,000 to them on some unknown basis…I thought the 600 million cedis must be be given to people whose businesses can be traced…nobody should think this is a normal thing happening, this is insensitivity by NPP government towards Ghanaians.”
