KATH goes paperless

The Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has announced that the hospitalis in its final phase of the computerization of all clinical functions has been operationalized on a trial basis since August 1.

According to the hospital, the computerization of all clinical activities is meant to make the operations of the hospital paperless and improve the quality of clinical care to the public.

It notes however,that it is anticipated that the migration may create some operational hiccups at the initial stages of the deployment.

A statement signed by Chief Executive Heneba Owusu-Danso appealed for the full co-operation of members of the public who access care at the facility to ensure a complete, smooth and successful roll-out of the project.



“The operationalization when completed, will ensure the speedy delivery of care to clients by ensuring the detailed and timely capture, retrieval and analysis of patients’ records and remarkably enhance clinical decisions for quality patient care,” the statement read.

The statement added “consequently, clients should not expect to be given paper folders, henceforth, when they report to the hospital as that has been done away with.Management wishes, to take this opportunity to express its deepest appreciation to His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, for the inclusion of KATH in the pilot for the Presidential Computerization Project of health institutions through the Ministry of Health.”

“The hospital management is further grateful to the Ministry of Health for assisting in procuring some of the computers and other hardware needed for the project. Also deserving a special commendation are the chairmen and members of the KATH Board and the Hospital’s e-Health Committee who have done a yeoman’s job on .overseeing the roll-out exercise. ”

This roll out makes the KATH the second Teaching Hospital after the Cape-Coast Teaching Hospital to achieve this feat.
