The poor state of education at Amedzope, a farming community in Afram Plains South District has pushed a journalist in Kwahu to kneel before a camera, appealing to all agencies to assist them.
The Kwahu-based journalist with Agoo FM Ebenezer Kojo Nyavor in a video said “Just take a look at where these kids study, let me kneel down and plead with you, I mean everyone not only the government, individuals, Non-governmental Organizations, Churches and… in fact everyone. Please let’s rescue them from this situation.”
The State of the Amedzope Basic School has recently gone viral on social media. Teachers and pupils are seen under trees and a wooden structure.
Leaves were used to roof the wooden structure making studies uncomfortable for these children.
The Headmaster of the school Adzawutor Tetteh revealed there was no school in the community some years ago. Children could not go to a nearby school until they’re of 11yrs and above due to the long distance.
The situation he said led to rampant cases of teenage pregnancies in the community adding the unavailability of school was one of the major factors.
Opinion leaders per consultation with the District Education Directorate established the school for the children.
The School which was established in 2017 has not yet experienced any improvement, some teachers who are posted to render their services mostly refused to accept such offer except few.
The School has a total number of 80 students, the current state is not encouraging most of them to join classes.
The teachers appealed to the general public to come to their aid.
“No accommodation for teachers, no chairs and tables for students, in fact no school building so you can imagine what we’re going through here. Making use of this structure whiles other students are studying under trees is a big problem. The community is trying to build something for us but their financial aspect is not good enough. It’s not easy for us.” the teachers told Agoo FM news.
