COVID-19: Second phase of vaccination begins Wednesday – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has announced the second round of national vaccination against the deadly Coronvirus will commence on Wednesday, May 19.

The President in his 25th national broadcast since the outbreak of the virus in Ghana said the will also take place in 43 districts.

“I am happy to announce that beginning Wednesday, May 19 to Wednesday 26 May, the deployment of the second dose of vaccines will take place across the designated vaccination centres in the 43 districts approximately 12 weeks after the first jab as the science prescribes. More details of the deployment will be communicated by the Ghana Health Service in the coming week,” the President Sunday.





The President also said restrictions that have been put in place to check the spread of the virus are still in force.

‘Until we vaccinate the requisite numbers of Ghanaians and achieve herd immunity, which will help return our lives to normalcy, the Imposition of Restrictions Act 2020 (Act 1012), will remain in force and the security agencies will not relent in their efforts to enforce it.”

Government has received 350,000 additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccine
Additional vaccines are being expected
Persons who received their first shots between March 1 and 9, 2021 have been earmarked to take the 350,000 vaccines that have arrived in the coming days
The next batch of Ghanaians who took their first dose from March 10, 2021 will also receive their second within the 12-week window
Government is committed to ensuring more Ghanaians receive their vaccines this year and beyond
Testing of passengers at the airport still in force
Infection rate dropping
Government is working out modalities with pubs, cinema and night club owners to pave the way for their reopening
Postpone all nonessential travels until the world fights the virus to an appreciable level
