National Security withdraws four officers over Caleb Kudah assault

The National Security has withdrawn the services of four officers from the Military and Police Service who were on secondment over the assault on Citi FM journalist Caleb Kudah.

In a statement, the National Security described the action of the officers as inappropriate and contravened the Ministry’s standard operating procedures. The statement added that the officers have been referred to the Chief of Defense Staff and Police Service for appropriate investigations and sanctions.

The security agency also slammed Caleb Kudah’s entry into the National Security premises as unlawful.

“An investigation committee was set up by the Ministry of National Security to investigate a report of arrest of Mr Caleb Kudah of Citi FM on May 11, 2021. The Committee established that the conduct of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman (Director of Operations) and some police officers at the Ministry on the said day was inappropriate and contravened the Ministry’s standard operating procedures.

“The Committee also established that the journalist’s unauthorised entry into the premises of the Ministry of National Security was unlawful.

The following actions have thus been taken by the Ministry:

• The secondment of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman (Director of Operations) at the Ministry has been reversed. The officer is to report to the Chief of Defence Staff for further investigation and appropriate action.




• The three (3) Police officers involved have been withdrawn and are to report to the Ghana Police Service for investigation and disciplinary action.”

Background
Caleb Kudah a reporter with Citi FM/Citi TV was arrested at the National Security Ministry on May 11, 2021, for filming abandoned MASLOC vehicles parked at the premises of the Ministry.

He was at the Ministry to verify claims by MASLOC that all the cars procured by the agency had been distributed.

A day after his release Caleb Kudah revealed that he was brutalised by the security officers who arrested him.
