Residents residing in Anwiafutu in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region are appealing with the government, the Jomoro Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament, NGOs and other philanthropists to come to their aid to assist them with some basic social amenities.
Some residents in Anwiafutu who spoke to Jomoro based New Day FM said, they lack social amenities such as pipe born water, proper road network, toilet facility, ICT Centers, telecommunication network among others.
The residents stated that the road network that passes through Anwiafutu to Old Ankasa Community are so bad that it makes usage of the road almost completely dusty causing a detrimental threat to their health and transportation of food produce extremely difficult to market centers in Nzema Aiyinase, Elubo Sowudadzim for ready market.
According to them, the lack of social amenities in the area is making life in the area a living hell for them.
One of the residents who is a food vendor at the Basic school stated that though there is a basic school in the community but it’s struggling with a very bad shape for decades and lacks toilet facility resulting into open defecation by the pupils.
She added that teachers quarters is also in a bad state making it difficult for teachers posted to the area to be able to use hence teachers have been refusing postings to the area.
The lack of telecommunication network signal in the area and its surrounding Communities is also affecting the social and economic lives of them as residents are completely cut from communicating to their relatives and to make full utilization of the internet.
The situation has forced the residents to climb trees and hills before getting access to intermittent network to make calls.
A Health worker at Anwiafutu Chip Compound who anonymously spoke ‘off the record’ due to fear of dismissal narrated that, the health facility has only two nurses serving about two thousand (2,000) populates of about 3 Communities under a leakageing and wretched infrastructure.
She said, the Chip Compound is now suffering from lack of beds, adding that, the facility have a single ward which is in use to admit both children, males, females and even pregnant women who is in labour.
The situation has forced one of the nurses to transport a bed from home meant for her children to admit patients which results into referrals to other health facilities as it strives to decongest the 1-bed unit.
A visit to Anwiafutu Community by a journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari gathered that, almost 90% of projects in the area was executed by the community folks including their community durbar grounds which is left ignored at a roofing stage due to lack of financial support.
The unit committee chairman for Anwiafutu Mr Kwaku Asare a.k.a Orlando on his part revealed that, the JHS pupils in the area are unable to use their newly bought 12 computers due to lack of ICT laboratory making them lag behind in terms of modern technology usage.
Mr. Kwaku Asare urged the government to deem it necessary to focus on the rapid infrastructural development in the community. And however lamented that, the Jomoro municipal Assembly had not carried out any developmental projects to the benefit of the community.
