Airport staff demand payment of 13-month welfare, SSNIT arrears

Agitated staff members of the Ghana Airport Company are demanding the immediate release of their staff welfare, insurance and credit union deductions, as well as their Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) benefits that have accumulated for the past 13 months

According to reports, their action was triggered by an alleged physical assault of a worker by the Managing Director for the company, Mr Yaw Kwakwa, during a staff meeting to address the arrears.

The alleged assault, captured on a video circulating on social media, caused the workers, who have been demanding the removal of Mr Kwakwa for alleged mismanagement for some time now, to mount pressure on the company’s leadership

Meanwhile, SSNIT has sued the Ghana Airport Company over its failure to pay the contributions of its workers.
