Ghanaians don’t support each other, and that’s why we are stuck – Kwaakwa

Ghanaian singer, Kwaakwa also shared his thoughts on the no-support syndrome plaguing the industry. And according to him, one of the reasons the entertainment industry is ‘stuck’ is because Ghanaians are not supporting each other enough.

In a sit down with Pulse Ghana, the ‘Problem’ hitmaker spoke about his musical journey from Ghana to Nigerian and then back to Ghana to release his latest hit song. He narrated how he went from Mentor to Project Fame Academy in Nigerian.

And it is from these experiences that he noticed a few downsides in the Ghanaian entertainment industry. He said, “Me being in Nigerian for a bit now. Nigerians take a bit more risk. A lot of the artists that I’ve spoken to in Ghana tend to think that when you do the typical Ghanaian thing. That is when you would be accepted.

So most of them listen to my songs and go like, I think you have to tone it down. But I think it is time for us to put ourselves out there and take all the risks. We are not supporting each other enough. I think that is also a factor in why we are still stuck where we are. We are not supporting each other enough. We are fighting ourselves,” Kwaakwa continued.

Kwaakwa also talked about how he has always had a musical bone in his body. This was an essential element that got him through to the final stages. Because he didn’t get enough support from the votes.

“At the age of 13, I met Skinny Willis and then I started learning how to produce music and very thing. Kwaakwa was discovered when he stepped into the limelight in 2008 when he went on Mentor Season 4. So it was that show that actually shined the light on the talent, and people started noticing.”
