Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor has handed late call ups to Ghana Premier League duo Fatawu Mohammed and Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye.
Hearts of Oak captain Mohammed and Abbey-Ashie Quaye who plays for Great Olympics have both been invited to join the Black Stars camp to prepare for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Tuesday.
GFA also announced that Brentford forward Tariqe Fosu has been ruled out of the games, as well as Slovakia-based right-back Benson Annang who is injured.
This is the second time Mohammed has been called up for Black Stars duty, following his debut call-up in November 2019. The right-back’s return to the team is a reward for his immense contribution to the Phobians domestic double-winning 2020/21 season.
For left-back Abbey-Ashie Quaye, it is his debut call-up after excelling for Great Olympics last season and Black Satellites in March as they won the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
Ghana will play Ethiopia in Cape Coast on September 3 before travelling to face South Africa in Johannesburg on 6 September.
