Andre Ayew debuts for Al Sadd

Ghana captain Andre Ayew Sunday made his competitive debut for Qatari top-flight club Al Sadd.

Ayew played in Al Sadd’s season opener against A-Sailiya which ended 2-0 at the Al-Gharafah Stadium in Doha.

Ayew partnered Algerian Africa Cup of Nations winner Baghdad Bounedjah in a two-man attack, and despite not scoring head coach Xavi Hernandez was pleased with him.

Winger Boualem Khoukhi and 40-year-old midfielder Rodrigo Tabata got the goals for Al Sadd.

Ayew joined Al Sadd on a free transfer in July, signing a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further one year.

The 31-year-old left Swansea after he unluckily missed out on Premier League promotion twice. He scored a combined 31 goals as Swansea reached Championship playoffs in the past two seasons.
