Rev Owusu Bempah’s church apologises to attacked journalists

The Glorious Word Power Ministries International (GWPMI) has rendered an unqualified apology to journalists attacked at the Accra Circuit Court on Monday by persons believed to be its members.

“We humbly wish to indicate that as a church, we do not support any form of violence,” it said on Wednesday, September 15.

“We reiterate that this act was not sanctioned by us and as such we condemn it in no uncertain terms.”

The attackers prevented journalists from taking shots of Leader and Founder of GWPMI Apostle Isaac Owusu Bempah, who appeared in court with three others for offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, the threat of death, and assault of office public officers.





They were picked up by the police on Sunday.

On the following day when they appeared at the Accra Circuit Court 4, they were denied bail and were remanded in police custody to re-appear on Monday, September 20.

But on Wednesday, September 15, lawyers of the controversial man of God proceeded to the High Court to secure a bail for them.

The police earlier apologised to journalists for the events of Monday and assured journalists that they will be protect in subsequent coverages and “allowed to do their work at all times”.

The police also announced that a team is studying the footage of the alleged assault on journalists to identify the alleged perpetrators for immediate prosecution.

The church pledged its full cooperation and support for the media.

“We plead with the affected media organisations and journalists to kindly accept our apology.”
