Football Derbies to light up the weekend

Nothing quite excites football fans like a clash with their fiercest rivals despite the close geographical proximity to each other. Games with city rivals bring a lot of emotions making football fans passionate about their teams.

There are some mouth watering football derbies across the globe this weekend.

THE MANCHESTER DERBY
The Manchester Derby needs little persuasion for football fans to tune in and watch because of the history behind the two teams. Manchester United will battle it out with Manchester City in the first Manchester Derby of the season.

The Cityzens sit on the third position behind Chelsea and Liverpool; leading their rivals with just three points. The two have met 185 times, the Red Devils have won 77 while City have won 55 times.

In recent times, Manchester United have triumphed over the rivals. In form Cristiano Ronaldo has a good record against the Cityzens, he has met them 14 times playing for United and Real Madrid and has scored 5 goals against them. In 2009, he scored against them in the EPL as United won 2-0. Who wins the weekends encounter as Pep Guardiola renews his rivalry with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

DERBY DELLA MADONNINA

Their rivalry between AC Milan and Inter Milan started as early as 1899 and has not raged on till date. Inter Milan and AC Milan have use the same grounds or stadium for so many years.

AC Milan are second on the Italian Serie A log while reigning champions, Inter Milan are third on the table. However, seven points separate the sides. Inter Milan will be the happiest side if the game goes their way . The game will played on Sunday in the Serie A.

THE SOWETO DEEBY
The Soweto Derby is back as the South African Premier Soccer League continues.

Kaizer Chiefs takes on Orlando Pirates on Saturday. Kaizer Chiefs are seventh on the table and have improved after starting slowly this season. Pirates on the other hand, were defeated by Stellenbosch earlier in the week but are two points ahead of the city rivals.

THE CAIRO DERBY
The bitterest rivals in the Egyptian league will clash today at the Cairo International stadium as Zamalek battle with Al Ahly.





Both teams have not lost a game in their last six games in all competitions this season.

In their last six encounters, Zamalek have won one while Ahly have won three with two games being drawn games. During this period, 12 goals have been scored with the Red Devils scoring 7 while the Royal Team has 5 goals. The games promises to be another mouth watering encounter.

CASABLANCA DERBY

In the Moroccan Botala Pro League, the Casablanca derby will be played tomorrow as Wydad Casablanca takes on Raja Casablanca.

Wydad tops the league with 25 points while Raja are second with 20 points. In their last 16 games, Wydad has won five games, drawn seven with Raja winning four of the games.
