GPL Preview: Hearts battle WAFA, Kotoko makes Baba Yara return

After an exciting match week one of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League, match week two continues with some interesting and mouth-watering games.

Defending champions Hearts of Oak will today play against Sogakope-based WAFA as they seek their first win of the season at the Red Bull Arena. The Phobians drew goalless with Legon Cities last weekend while WAFA surprisingly lost to King Faisal. The Red Bull Arena has always been a difficult ground for Hearts with the rainbow club not winning a game there in the last three fixtures. In their last five encounters in the GPL, WAFA have won two games, drawn two games and lost one with the defeat recorded on 5th May 2019 at the Accra sports stadium.
On Saturday, Ashantigold will hope to continue with their winning run when they battle Karela United after they beat Techiman Eleven Wonders in week one last weekend. Karela United on the other hand drew 1-1 with Aduana Stars at home. The Miners have not lost a game against Karela United in their last four encounters. Ashantigold has won two and drawn two of those encounters. Can the Anyinase based club redeem themselves? Time will tell.

Asante Kotoko will play at the Baba Yara sports stadium on Sunday for the first in more than a year after renovation works at the stadium were done. The Porcupine Warriors will welcome Bechem United in an exciting game. The Hunters triumphed over Kotoko in their last encounter, 2-1 at Bechem in a game that confirmed Hearts of Oak as champions of the league last season. After staging a comeback against Dreams FC 3-1 at the Accra sports stadium last weekend, Prosper Ogum’s men will hope to make their fans happy at home. Bechem United also whitewashed Medeama SC 4-0 at home last weekend.

In Dormaa, Aduana Stars will host King Faisal. The Ogya Boys drew 1-1 to Karela United last weekend while King Faisal won 1-0 against WAFA. In their last five encounters, both teams have won two games with a game ending in a draw
