NDC misleading their supporters with ‘election petition’ to police – AG

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, says it is surprising that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would petition the police over allegations of vote pudding.

According to him, the allegations of pudding involved only 6,000 votes, an issue which has been thrashed out by the Supreme Court.

The NDC last week petitioned the police to investigate allegations that some 1 million ballots were added to the presidential votes in favour of the incumbent Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo .

Speaking to journalists in Accra, the Attorney General said the Ghana Police Service is not a forum for election petition.

“Even if it is counted that the wrong allegations of votes pudding has been established, it involves only 6,000 votes and that is why I am surprised that almost one year after the loss of that petition that they wildly make the claim of a wrong allegation of vote. Where that emanates from I don’t even know and what is even more surprising is the forum to which they made that allegations.

“Is the Ghana police an election petition forum in Ghana? It is the Supreme Court of Ghana and they had the opportunity of filing such a claim in court and they couldn’t prove it”.

Godfred Dame said the star witness for the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, had his day in court to prove that John Dramani Mahama won the elections but failed to submit his own answer in court.

“Even the exact number of votes that was obtained by their candidate [John Mahama], he didn’t establish it. And when their star witness, Asiedu Nketia, was asked he said he didn’t bring the answer to court but you take it to a police station.

“I think it is total confusion that they are labouring under and in my view it is an attempt to mislead their supporters and to think Mahama performed any better in the elections.”
