2022 Budget: Disrespect for time ‘a canker’ in Ghana – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has bemoaned the disrespect for time by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta regarding the presentation of the 2022 budget.

This follows the inability of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to present the government’s budget statement before parliament at the scheduled time.

The budget, which is scheduled to be presented today, 17 November 2021, was initially expected to be presented at 10 am but had not begun as of mid-day.

Class91.3FM’s parliamentary correspondent Charles Akrofi reported from the legislature that certain developments which took place a few days, including the recall of NABCo trainees among others, which are to find expression in the budget, were now been infused into the statement, thus, the delay.

In a Facebook post, the North Tongu MP said: “One of the intractable cankers that must change about our country — MPs are asked to report for the Budget presentation at 10 am & more than 2 hours after, we are still waiting in our seats.”

He added: “I guess in our republic, time is not money & productivity has a different definition”.

“Sad!”

The presentation of the budget statement is in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution.

Today’s budget statement will be the sixth under the Akufo-Addo-led government.
