According to him, all the necessary arrangements and plans for its revival had been completed.

The 36.5million US dollar facility was built and commissioned by former president John Dramani Mahama in May 2016.

It was subsequently shut down two days later to pave way for “maintenance” on the newly commissioned facility.

Honourable Kweku Ricketts Hagan who was then the Central Regional minister, speaking to JoyNews said the plant had a maintenance cycle plan and it was for it to operate properly and maintain its lifespan hence its closure.

It was expected to resume operation in six months after the closure but never saw the light till the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was voted out of power in 2016.

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo during a visit to the chiefs and people of Komenda in September 2018 announced that government would very soon name a strategic investor to be handed over the facility to for resuscitation.

That assurance from the president has since not come to pass three years after.
Some youth in the area and a group calling itself Concerned citizens of Komenda Traditional Area have threatened severally to demonstrate against the government over its failure to operationalize the abandoned and deteriorating facility.

But addressing farmers and fishers at Benyadze a farming community in the municipality on Friday during the celebration of the Municipal’s this year’s Farmers Day celebration, the MCE said the people of KEEA especially sugarcane farmers should expect a very big sigh of relieve as all was set for the sugar factory to be revamped.

“Very soon, very soon there will be joy everywhere in KEEA because by next year the Komenda sugar {factory} would be in operation.
“President has finished all the administrative arrangement for the operationalization of the factory so let us get ready for that”, Hon Solomon Ebo Appiah said.

He then urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the government’s agric policies such as Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Exports and Rural Development and the Rearing for Food and Jobs for government was committed to supporting farmers.
He finally appealed to traditional leaders to desist from releasing lands to illegal miners.

In all, 14 gallant farmers, institutions, organizations and Agricultural staff were awarded with a senior police Officer, ACP Christopher Abakah, adjudged the overall municipal best farmer.
