Kingston roots for Danlad, Attah in Black Stars squad

Black Stars Goalkeeper’s trainer, Richard ‘Olele’ Kingston says it is likely Accra Hearts of Oak’s Number 1, Richard Attah or Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s shot stopper, Danlad Ibrahim will be in post for Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

The two local goalkeepers excelled and kept clean sheets in Sunday’s Hearts vs Kotoko Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Speaking to the media on Attah and Danlad’s heroics, Kingston stated that a senior national team debut could be on the cards for the two goalies.

He said: “Of course we have them already in the national team, we just praying the day comes for the call ups, then a decision with regards to selection…

“There’s always a chance for these two shot stoppers to prove a point and stake a claim in the national team, so we need to rally our support behind any who is given the number 1 role.”

“Danlad and Attah possess the qualities to play at the top level, but with the national team, we have the first choice, second and third accordingly based on the coaches’ preference and we’ll need to go by it,” he added.

Richard Attah was part of the team that represented Ghana at the AFCON in Cameroon where the team exited the tournament in the group stages for the first time since 2006.

In all three appearances at the tournament, Attah failed to command a starting berth under former Gaffer Milovan Rajevac.

For Ibrahim Danlad, he was handed his maiden invite by another ex-coach of the national team Charles Akonnor following his exploits with the U-20 team in Mauritania.

These two goalkeepers will be hoping to keep up with great performances with their respective clubs, having the crucial World Cup qualifiers in mind later in March against rivals Nigeria.

The Black Stars welcome the Super Falcons on March 25 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, then follow suit with second leg on March 29 in Abuja at Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
