NPP polls: Reports of abuse of process ‘worrying’ – Addai- Nimoh

A 2014 presidential candidate aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Francis Addai-Nimoh has expressed some concerns about the scarcity of the party’s nomination forms for the upcoming polling station elections.

According to Mr Addai-Nimoh the event is worrying.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh in a statement dated February 22, 2022, said there are reported cases of abuse of the process by some sitting Members of Parliament and Constituency executives.

He said constituencies such as New Juabeng South, Mampong, Manhyia North, among others have been hotspots for these grave infractions against some aspirants.

“The main controversy is the hoarding of forms to prevent interested aspirants from filing their nominations, an issue I have been a victim of, in the past,” the statement said.

He said in 2022 he was prevented by some faceless individuals in the party from picking forms for the parliamentary elections.

“I went as far as regional executives to the National Chairman as well as the General Secretary of the party to no avail,” he explained.

Press release

STATEMENT BY FRANCIS ADDAI-NIMOH ON NPP’S REORGANIZATION AND MATTERS ARISING

I have taken notice of events occurring around the party’s attempts to reorganize the party in the shape of the polling station elections. The events are troubling as we have witnessed instances of violence in some constituencies.

There’re reported cases of abuse of the process by some sitting MPs and constituency executives in their reelection bids. Constituencies such as New Juabeng South, Mampong, Manhyia North, etc have been hotspots for these grave infractions. The main controversy is the hoarding of forms to prevent interested aspirants from filing their nominations, an issue I have been a victim of, in the past.

I find it unacceptable that these matters would be happening in defiance of clear guidelines issued by the national party.

It appears the horrifying events of 2020 that masked the party’s primaries are being replayed in 2022.

I am calling on the party leadership to take a strong stance on the matter and sanction anyone who has made it a business to continuously drag the party’s image into disrepute. If breaking the eight come 2024 is top on our agenda, then we must do all that is necessary to prevent the party from courting bad press due to these grave but preventable infractions.

The struggles of the party currently in parliament is a sequel of the 2020 primaries and we can’t afford not to take lessons from it accordingly.

Long live NPP

Long live Ghana
