Gov’t has not put school feeding programme on hold – GSFP Nat’l coordinator

Government has not suspended the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), management of the scheme has announced.

This follows reports by a section of the media that the programme has been suspended by management.

Condemning the reports of the suspension, the National Coordinator for the GSFP Gertrude Quashigah said: “NO! Government has not put Ghana School Feeding Programme on hold.”

She noted that the reports of the suspension of the programme are untrue and misleading.

She further noted that the reports could cause fear among beneficiaries of the programme, their parents and caterers.

Meanwhile, Government has suspended the expansion of the School Feeding Programme .

This was announced by Caretaker Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cecilia Dapaah on the floor of Parliament, Wednesday, 2 March 2022.

According to the Caretaker Minister, the expansion of the school feeding programme is on hold to enable government pay its debt to the caterers who were engaged.

Responding to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey on when government will extend the school feeding programme to his constituency, the Caretaker Minister said: “Currently the expansion of the programme is on hold. We are clearing all arrears of caterers and putting in place measures to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to all beneficiary schools as well as the caterers.

“We are also putting in place a management information system to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the system. We shall surely inform this august House when we are ready to expand the programme to cover additional schools.”
