2022 World Cup play: Ghana striker Jordan Ayew to play against Nigeria after testing negative for coronavirus

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew will play against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff after testing negative for coronavirus.

The Crystal Palace man will join the Black Stars in Kumasi to continue their preparations for the first meeting at the Baba Yara Stadium.

“Jordan Ayew has tested negative for Covid and will join the team later this week in Kumasi ahead of the Nigeria game,” GFA communications director Henry Asante Twum revealed on Tuesday.

Ayew has scored 18 goals in 73 appearances for the Black Stars since his debut in 2010, however, he hasn’t found the net since scoring in the 3-1 win against Sao Tome and Principe on March 28, 2021.

This season, he has scored only one goal for Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

He was one of the most heavily criticised players after the Black Stars’ shock first round exit at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year in Cameroon.

Black Stars arrived in Kumasi on Tuesday to continue their preparations for the critical games.

When they arrived, they were greeted with open arms.

Debutants Denis Odoi (Club Brugge), Montari Kamaheni (Ashdod), Elisha Owusu (Gent) and Dennis Korsah (Hearts of Oak) have arrived in camp.

The team will train today at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

They will wrap up preparations on Thursday evening before taking on Nigeria in the first meeting on Friday, 25 March 2022 at 7:30 pm local time.

The return leg will be played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
