CK Akonnor rallies support for Mohammed Salisu over Black Stars call up

Former head coach of the Black stars CK Akonnor has called on Ghanaians to be patient with Mohammed Salisu over his refusal to honor Black Stars call ups.

Salisu started his senior career with Valladolid, featuring for the reserve side before making his first team debut in 2019.

With his sterling performance in Europe, the Ghana football Association threw in an invitation to play for Ghana but the player has consistently refused to honour invitations into the Black Stars.

Speaking exclusively to GHOne TV Charles Akonnor revealed during his era as coach of the Black stars, he invited Mohammed Salisu but the player at the time also declined the invitation.

“It is true, I personally contacted him but it didn’t work. I went to Spain and that was my first time and i tried reaching out to all the guys except him.” he said.

Salisu has on several occasions written back to the GFA to give him more time, something most players plying their trade in Europe will jump at.

CK Akonnor believes the player might have some personal reasons best known to himself for not honouring the call ups. He therefore advised Ghanaians to be patient with the player.

“Maybe there is more to it than what we are hearing. I’m not blaming him, he has reasons for what is going on. Maybe someone needs to speak with him otherwise you get mad and you would not understand him. ” he concluded.
