On Wednesday (April 20), Universal Pictures announced it has began filming the tenth instalment of its commercially successful and biggest franchise, Fast & Furious.
Dubbed “Fast X”, the tenth entry in the series is scheduled for a May 19, 2023 release. Over the last several month, lead actor, Vin Diesel has been making casting announcements, including the addition of Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) whose roles are yet to be unveiled. They will be joined by Jason Momoa who will make his Fast and Furious debut as the villain in Fast X.

Alongside all these new additions, there will also be plenty of familiar faces returning to the franchise, along with series regulars like Dom (Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), and Tej (Ludacris). Fast X will include the return of Han (Sung Kang) and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel). Justin Lin will also return to direct Fast X, which will be his sixth entry in the series.
The series has been commercially successful; Universal’s biggest franchise, it is the seventh highest-grossing film series, with a combined gross of over $6 billion. Critical reception for the first four films were mixed to negative until the fifth and later films, which were more mixed to positively received.
Outside of the films, Fast & Furious has been the focus of other media, including attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida, live shows, commercials, many video games and toys. It is considered the vehicle that propelled lead actors Vin Diesel and Paul Walker to stardom.
